Two Malayali students top Spelling Bee Contest in Bangalore

Two Malayali students bagged the first prize in the Marrs International Spelling Bee contest held at Nimhans Convention Centre in Bangalore on Sunday.
Alok Immanual from Wayanad Kendriya Vidyalaya won category-5 session of the competition, while P Balasubramaniam of Harisri Vidya Nidhi School, Thrissur, won the first prize under category-6.
Malavika V Deepak, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ottapalam, and G Abhirami, Bharatiya Vidyabhavan, Perumthuruthi, won the second and third prizes, respectively, under category-4. Rishi Anand Nambiar of Gear Innovative International School, first prize winner of category-2, was declared as the best performer of the championship. Malayali kids studying in other states too brought laurels to Kerala.
Aadith Kumar Pillai, Hiranandani Foundation School, Powai, Maharashtra, won the first prize while Nikhil Bhardwaj, Vibgyor High School, Marathalli, Karnataka, and Aanvi Arya, Billabong High International School, Maharashtra, won the second and third prize, respectively, under category-1.
Under category-6, Amita Ajith Kamath, National Public School, Rajaji Nagar, Karnataka, and Janet Maria Sajan, The Brigade School, J P Nagar, Karnataka, won the second and third prizes, respectively.
First prize in each category was scholarship of Rs 2 lakh. Second prize winners got Rs 1 lakh and the third prize winners got Rs 50,000 each. The best performer got a scholarship worth Rs 10 lakh.
Over 1,000 children, studying in Class-one to 12 participated in the competition conducted on Saturday and Sunday. They have all qualified from the school level through the school, inter-school, state and national championships to participate in the international championship. Children from various schools across India, the UAE and Kuwait participated in the championship.
