The science of letters

If the growing clientele If the growing clientele of numerologists is any indication, the fad is not just limited to the rich and the famous

An extra alphabet in the middle or an all new spelling. Altering names and titles using additional letters is nothing new, but if the growing clientele of numerologists is any indication, the fad is not just limited to the rich and the famous.

“As a numerologist I’ve helped lots of people change their names over the years, and I changed my own a few years back. People from all fields approach us and most of them come when they have any setbacks,” says Thulasidharran, a city based numerologist whose clients range from techies and doctors to tourists and actors.

The science of numerology is very simple. Your name and date of birth are used as the primary data. What a numerologist does is finding a name or new spelling that is compatible with your DOB.

According to numerologists changing your first name or nick name will help you solve relationship problems, but when it comes to business or career-related problems, changing the full name is recommended.

“Along with the change in your name your signature will also change. There are many foreigners who come to get a numerological reading and go back with a different name. Majority are happy with the change and they I have many testimonials written by tourists,” Thulasidharran adds.

For people in the showbiz consulting a professional has become a routine affair and many actors and directors testify that. While some popular filmmakers like Joshiy and Rosshan Andrrews are known for their love for numerology, there are many others who consult a professional prior to starting their career.

“There are many producers and directors who consult astrologers before finalising the title of the film. Ninety percent of the aspiring actors go for new names before entering the industry. If numerological calculation can change the box office performance why not try it,” asks a filmmaker on conditions of anonymity.

Another interesting aspect is that you get a trial period for your new name and you need to publish it in the gazette only if you are happy and satisfied with it. Ambareesh, an It expert with a multinational, says numerology has changed his life for the better.

“It fixed all the problem areas in my life starting from career. It was a friend who dragged me to this numerologist and at first I was really very reluctant. But from day one it started working. The first thing I did was to use the new spelling for my office login and mail ids. With in two weeks I was convinced and then I officially changed my name,” he says.

Most people go for minor changes in the original spelling, but there are others who opt for an all-new name. “There was a period when I wanted a fresh start as personal and professional life was in chaos. The numerologist said I should go for a new name starting with M and I was willing to do anything. Within one month my new name appeared on the name board, I started getting more clients. Now I have a roaring practice,” says Maya, an advocate.
