Onam feast for film buffs as biggies hit screens

Bringing cheer to cinemas, an array of movies that target family audience will hit the screens

The big capacity theatres in the city, which are facing stiff competition from multiplex culture that is gripping Kochi, will have something to cheer about this Onam as an array of movies are expected to hit the screens this season.

These movies, which offer something for the class as well as mass audience,  are expected to fill the huge capacity theatres in the city to its maximum.

The first biggie of Onam season, Mammootty’s Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus, had already hit the silver screen on Thursday. The film written by

Benny P Nayarambalam is directed by debutant Marthandan. The film received  an overwhelming response from the fans and is expected to attract families and youth alike. The power-packed performance by Mammootty as Cleetus, the goon who was roped in to play the role of Jesus in a play, is the major highlight of the film.

Produced by Faizal Latheef, Cleetus also features Sidhique, P Balachandran, Suraj Venjaramood, Hony Rose and Thezni Khan in prominent roles. The movie is screened at Ernakulam Saritha Theatre.

Actor Dileep’s romantic comedy Sringaravelan will hit the screens this Onam. Scheduled at Padma theatre, the movie also have Lal and Vedika in prominent roles. Scripted by hit duo Sibi K Thomas and Uday Krishna, Srinagarvelan will also see the team Mayamohini rejoining hands. Director Jose Thomas’ comedy flick is expected to be one of the major attractions of this festival season. The major highlight of the film, according to the industry sources, is the comedy numbers of Dileep. who is the number one choice of family audiences.

The legendary writer-director team of Malayalam cinema, M T Vasudevan Nair and Hariharan, is coming up with their latest flick, Ezhamathe Varavu,  this Onam. This time Hariharan-MT team is joining hands with young actors including Indrajith, Bhavana and Vineeth for the movie making it one of the widely expected movies of this year. The combo who gifted memorable moments of movie experience through films like Pachagni, Nakhakshathangal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha is teaming once again and naturally the expectations too are skyrocketing. Last time,, when M T and Hariharan joined hands together, movie lovers were gifted with another epic movie “Pazhassi Raja”.  Ezhamathe Varavu will hit screens on Thiruonam day. The movie is scheduled at Ernakulam savitha.

New Generation hero Fahad fazil will play the lead role in debutant director  Anil Radhakrishnan Menon’s movie North 24 Kaatham, which will hit screens this week. The movie’s trailer has received an overwhelming response and the story evolves during a journey. However, the makers have already made it clear that it is  but it is something beyond a travelogue. North 24 Kaatham will be screened at Ernakulam Kavitha.

Fahad Fazil, Jayasuriya, Anup Menon, Asif Ali, Unni Mukundan and Samuthirakkani will play prominent roles in the movie ‘D Company’, which is  an anthology of three action flicks. Directed by Padmakumar, Diphan and Vinodh Vijayan, these three movies are expected to be a treat to the lovers of action  flicks. Expected to be a technically top notch venture, ‘D Company’, will also have the added advantage of a huge star cast. Produced by Vinodh Vijayan and Seven Arts Mohan, D Company, will be screened at Ernakulam Sridhar.
