TNIE Bid to Promote Soccer Lauded

Luminaries addressed the valedictory function of Goal 2014, the third edition of the inter-collegiate football tournament organised by The New Indian Express, have lauded its efforts to promote football at grass root level.

“Organising a tournament of this kind is a highly laudable effort for a media organisation. ‘Express’ has set a a great example for promoting the game at grassroots level,” said CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing the gathering at the valedictory function.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal and Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas and Excise and Ports Minister K Babu also lauded TNIE’s effort to take the game of football to newer heights. Governor Nikhil Kumar, who gave away the trophy to the winners, said that new talent would emerge through such tournaments. He also highlighted the dominance of Kerala football players in the Kolkata Football League.
