488 gm of Gold Seized from Airport

The air intelligence unit of Customs at the Nedumbassery Airport detained a passenger and seized 488 grams of gold from him on Sunday. The total seizure is valued at `13,33,816.
The detained is identified as Naushad Puthalath, 33, of Badariya Manzil, at Panoor in Kannur who arrived by Emirates Flight No. EK-530 from Dubai to Cochin at 8.45 am. He was detained under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962, and was released on bail.
According to Customs officials, the passenger was intercepted at the exit gate of the arrival hall, while he was trying to passing through the green channel, under suspicion that he was carrying contraband gold. “When quizzed whether he had any gold with him, he answered in the negative, but an X-ray examination of his baggage, which included two checked-in baggage and one hand bag, found dark coloured metal rods concealed inside his hand bag alongside the beadings,” said Deputy Commissioner of Customs SAS Navaz.
While conducting a detailed search of the bag by cutting open the beadings, six gold rods coated with silver-of about 34 cm long and weighing 80 grams each, and weighing 480 grams were found concealed. And On frisking, two more gold coins, weighing 8 grams, were also seized.
The team of officers led by SAS Navaz, Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Superintendents G Ajithkrishnan, R. Shyju, Lalphi Joseph and Inspectors Sunil Kumar, Nitish Shukla, Anjunath and Anjana Menon.
