The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate on Thursday granted bail to Kavitha Pillai, an accused in MBBS admission fraud cases registered at Ernakulam Central Police Station.
The bail was granted after the prosecution did not raise serious objection over the bail petition filed by Kavitha Pillai. The court ordered that accused could be granted bail after she executes a bond of `50,000 with two solvent sureties.
The sureties have been asked to submit original title deeds at the court. Similarly, she has been asked to appear before the investigation officer between 9 am and 10 am on every Saturday and not to leave the state without the permission of the court.
Kavitha had filed bail petition in two cases registered under IPC 406 and 420 for cheating Vijayan of Thrissur and Rama of Karunagapally. She allegedly had taken `15 lakh each from these two persons after promising MBBS seats for their children.
Kavitha, in her petition, submitted that she is severely ill and her son is alone at home, as her husband had passed away last year due to cancer. She said she had not cheated anybody. Police have registered 10 cases against Kavitha for cheating various persons by taking money for medical seats. They have filed a charge sheet in one case.
