The functioning of the Ernakulam General Hospital was thrown into disarray following power disruption from early morning on Tuesday to 2 pm on Wednesday.
The functioning of the Operation Theatre, X-ray, CT Scan and testing labs were affected due to the power outage, caused by the snag in a 11 kv high-tension underground electric cable on Tuesday morning.
Hundreds felt the pinch of the power shutdown at the hospital as they had to rely on other alternatives. The hospital authorities said they had hired generators for the smooth functioning of the hospital and emergency operations were carried out without any hitch. We had intimated people of the inconvenience through a notice displayed at the hospital, they said. However, power was restored by around 2 pm, said P G Annie, superintendent of the hospital.
Sunilkumar, a KSEB official, said the work on the 15-year-old underground cable was replaced with another cable of high capacity. The cable was supplying power only to the hospital, power was not disrupted at any other place.
