'Enforce Ban on Women at Sabarimala'

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has directed the Travancore Devaswom Board and officials at Pampa and Sannidhanam to enforce the ban on girls and women in the 10-50 age group from entering the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala. A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice Anu Sivaraman issued the directive in view of the recent instances of young women entering the temple. It observed that the Division Bench had earlier upheld the restriction on entry of women on the trekking path from Pampa to Sannidhanam. Earlier it had observed that restriction was in accordance with the ‘customs and usage’, and did not violate any fundamental right.
