Koratty, the new IT destination

KOCHI: Koratty is an emerging as the IT destination in Ernakulam district with the commencement of Smart Space. Thousands of IT professionals use Angamaly, Karukutty and Koratty railway stations on a daily basis to commute to Ernakulam as they work at Infopark. The Koratty Infopark came as a boon for them. The first phase of the park constitutes 30 companies employing around 700 people functioning out of renovated buildings in 12 acres of non-SEZ zone.

The second building-Indeevaram-in Phase II promises to attract larger companies. The single block building in six acres has a total built up area of 3.3 lakh square feet, with ground plus six floors. It has a basement, auditorium and pantry on the ground floor, and open parking areas and food courts on the terrace. It will also have space for startups and SMEs on the ground floor and first floor, giving room to the IT giants on the upper floors.

According to Infopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair it is capable of generating 3,000 jobs. "Rather than commissioning a mere building, it can be termed as a part of a larger goal of developing Koratty from a mere spoke of Infopark Kochi into a hub on its own right. The strategic location - just 15 minutes from Kochi airport and along the national highway- and lower operating costs, about 30 per cent less compared to Kochi, being the highlights," he adds.

Koratty is easily accessible from major cities of Kerala. People can enjoy the comforts of a metro though they live in their home towns. Major railway stations at Alwaye and Thrissur are accessible at 20 and 35 minutes respectively.

The building has parking facility for over 500 cars. Also can provide indirect employment opportunities for around 15,000 people. The Indeevaram project was completed at a cost of Rs 76 crore in three years. Total investment for the campus has reached Rs 100 crore for both phases.

Now 18 acres of land remains to be developed in Koratty campus, out of which Infopark is developing 6 acres and the rest of the land will be developed by KSITIL (Kerala State IT Infrastructure Limited) through Infopark or Co-Developers
