KOCHI: There is one more reason for fans to cheer for Kerala Blasters FC’s progress through the playoff matches. The 66,000-capacity Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here has been confirmed as the venue for the title clash of Season III of the Indian Super League.

It would be a double delight for home fans, should the Blasters, who play North- East United FC in their final league match on Sunday, advance to the final slated for December 18.

“Kerala has been the bedrock of Indian football. It is one of the few states in the country where interest in football is unparalleled. I have always been intrigued by the pride and passion of the football fans in Kerala. We felt that awarding the prestigious final of ISL 2016 to Kochi would be an apt ode to the state’s contribution to Indian football,” said Nita Ambani, chairperson of Football Sports Development Ltd that runs ISL.
