KOCHI: The Legal Metrology Department has laid down strict guidelines for organisers of the Indian Super League (ISL) with regard to pricing of food and beverages at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, where the final match between Kerala Blasters and Atletico de Kolkata will be held on Sunday.

The move came following a meeting of the ISL organisers and the Department held the other day, in the wake of reports that food and beverages were being sold at exorbitant prices.

Earlier, an inspection conducted by the Department had revealed that packaged food items and bottled water were sold above the MRP displayed on them, during the ISL matches. Subsequently, the Department had closed down the food stalls at the stadium.

“We have issued a directive to organisers of the ISL that packaged food items and beverages should not be sold at prices higher than the MRP, and that non-packaged items like popcorn should be sold only after weighing them properly. The organisers have assured us that no malpractice would be allowed to take place,” said Legal Metrology Department-Central Zone Deputy Controller R Ram Mohan.

For Sunday’s final match, the Department will be deploying a squad at the stadium to check overcharging of food and beverages. If any violation is detected, customers can contact the squad on +91-8281698059.

“The public should not hesitate to approach us with complaint, on which legal action will be taken,” said Ram Mohan.
