SHRC seeks probe into minor’s abuse allegations

KOCHI: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday directed the City Police Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the charges of abuse raised by a 17-year old girl, who gave birth after being allegedly impregnated by a 12-year-old boy. SHRC Acting-Chairman P Mohana Das issued an order to appoint a DySP rank officer to initiate the probe. SHRC also directed to conduct a medical examination, including that of the reproductive capacity of the boy, under supervision of an experienced physician.

“The service of expert doctors should be utilized in the investigation and a report of the inquiry should be submitted within two weeks,” the order said. The commission registered the case suo motu on the basis of media reports. The Kalamassery police have already registered a case against the minor boy.
