A routine circular: MCH

KOCHI: Medical College authorities clarified that the circular on dress code was a routine communique sent out every year before commencement of new courses and that there was no restriction on students wearing dresses of their choice in the campus after class hours.

“Medical College is a professional educational institution. In majority of the private medical colleges, uniform and dress code are mandatory. As per Medical Council of India norms, Principals are authorised to prescribe dress code,” a statement from the Medical College said.

The statement said that the dress code is given to students at the time of admission. Since students from second to fourth year spend most of their time in the hospital, it is ideal for them to follow the dress code.
Absence of proper dress code including the white coat often leads to altercation with the bystanders. The faculty and patients have often complained that medical students do not wear appropriate dress, statement said.
