Basheer Award presented to Adoor

The 22nd Basheer Award was presented to renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan at a function held at the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendra (CSK) at Edappally here.

KOCHI: The 22nd Basheer Award was presented to renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan at a function held at the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendra (CSK) at Edappally here. The award was presented by Aneesh Basheer, son of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer. The event organised by the CSK and Pravasi Doha, a socio- cultural, literary and charitable organisation of Keralites in Qatar, was graced by Jnanpith Award winner M T Vasudevan Nair; writers M A Rahman and C R Omanakuttan; and members of the Basheer Award Committee.

Adoor, as he is called, was selected for the award in recognition of his selfless works and outstanding achievements in the Indian film industry. His movies Swayamvaram, Elippathayam, Vidheyan, Kodiyettam and Mukhamukham are considered to be classics. On the occasion, M T Vasudevan Nair presented a memento to Adoor, while M A Rahman presented an appreciation letter. The function concluded with screening of a documentary on Adoor’s life.
