Crime Branch takes over suicide bid case

The investigation into the suicide attempt of an engineering college student was handed over to the Crime Branch from local police on Tuesday, following a directive from the DGP.

ALAPPUZHA: The investigation into the suicide attempt of an engineering college student was handed over to the Crime Branch from local police on Tuesday, following a directive from the DGP.  

Aarsh Raj, 20, a second year engineering student of Sri Vellappally Natesan College of Engineering, Kattachira, near Mavelikkara, had tried to commit suicide in the college hostel late night on Saturday after allegedly scolded by the principal. 

Vallikunnam police had registered a case based on the statement of Aarsh. College principal H Ganesan and Sree Gurudeva Charitable and Educational Trust general secretary Subhash Vasu are the first and second accused in the FIR.  

After the incident, various students’ organisations staged march to the college and vandalised the office.
