DMO alerts public on spread of Hepatitis A

The District Medical Officer (DMO) has urged the public to remain cautious as more Hepatitis A cases were being reported from Kalamassery and nearby areas.

KOCHI:  The District Medical Officer (DMO) has urged the public to remain cautious as more Hepatitis A cases were being reported from Kalamassery and nearby areas.


The DMO has asked the people to avoid cooking and cleaning plates in unhygienic water and not to consume food prepared by people infected with Hepatitis A.


The DMO has also advised the people to drink only boiled water. “Hotels, canteens and catering centres should provide only boiled water for drinking. Cooks should avail of health cards. Water used for cooking should be examined in a recognised laboratory once in six months. If possible, avoid consuming food from outside.

Do not consume non-cooked salad, ice-cream and cool drinks,” said a statement issued by the medical officer.
It further said open wells in households should be chlorinated. Water from non-chlorinated wells should not be used for cooking purposes, it stated.
