Uncertainty prevails over screening of ‘Baahubali 2’ in Kochi multiplexes

The uncertainty followed the failure of the movie’s distributors, Century Films and the exhibitors to arrive at a consensus on revenue sharing.

KOCHI: Film buffs, who were eagerly awaiting the screening of S S Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion’ on Friday at the city’s two prominent multiplexes-- PVR and Cinepolis-- were left disappointed after uncertainty prevailed over its screening till late in the night.

The uncertainty followed the failure of the movie’s distributors, Century Films and the exhibitors to arrive at a consensus on revenue sharing.

According to Raju Mathew of Century Films, the distributor has asked for a change in the existing revenue-sharing system. “Distributors and producers are the ones who take the risk. For a film like ‘Baahubali’, there is a lot of investment. The multiplexes make a windfall from screening the movie, in terms of advertisement and other means, including food stalls. If they are not willing to agree to our terms, the movie will not be screened in PVR and Cinepolis. Anyway, almost all release theatres in Kochi are screening ‘Baahubali’, so the audience won’t encounter a problem,” he said.

According to the sources, many who had pre-booked tickets in Cinepolis got their tickets cancelled.
