KOCHI: The KSU activists are on protest mode against the acquisition of the land belonging to Maharaja’s College by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) for the construction of a walkway.

KSU activists formed a human chain near the Maharaja’s College and General Hospital Road on Monday.
KSU leaders said the KMRL has failed to fulfill its promise while taking over the land at the Maharaja’s College ground for the Metro Project. The protesters disrupted the acquisition proceedings by laying seige to the road.

Later, the police arrested and removed the protesters enabling officers to continue their work. KSU unit president Jibin Babu and DCC vice-president Muhammad Shiyas inaugurated the protest march.

“The promise given by KMRL was it would renovate hostels of the college before taking over the land. However, even after two years, no construction was carried out. The students of the college still face lack of proper hostel facility. We no more trust the government and KMRL as they have not done anything for the students. The protest will continue until the KMRL fulfills the promise. Even if the police arrest and remove us, more KSU activist and students of the college would take part in the protest,” Jibin Babu said.
