KOCHI: The addicts have turned their eyes to Goa and other states since it is comparatively easy to obtain MDMA and other drugs there. Even though the drugs are available readily in these states, the rackets operating in Kerala actively ensure that their clients feel no pinch when it comes to satiating their need to get high. The rackets are very active in supplying drugs to those they send on these rave trips. The arrests of youths for possessing LSD and MDMA have exposed a dark and painful truth. It has come to light that many minors too have become entrapped in the vicious grip of drugs. WhatsApp messages on the mobile phones seized from the peddlers gave an insight into the murky world of teenage addicts.

“With the police tightening the noose around drug rackets, many peddlers have gone off the grid by switching off their mobile phones. However, the police have intensified their investigations and will trace all the suspects,” said an official.Taking into consideration that drug peddling may increase during the Onam season, the City Police have intensified drive against those selling contrabands. The 24X7 drive will last till Onam festivities are over. According to the officers, the cops have already collected details about the youths who have been arrested on charges of possession of ganja and other drugs.

They are also monitoring the movements of these persons. “In many cases, more information about the racket which supplies the drug is obtained by monitoring the activities of those who had been arrested. Hence, we are reviewing the records of the arrested,” said a top official.City Police have launched patrolling. They are checking out migrant workers and others whose movements elicit suspicion. Migrant workers are the main targets since it has been found that they are the major suppliers of ganja. The recently introduced Pink Patrol has helped cops a lot in spotting these kind of persons who are allegedly involved in ganja peddling.Crime Detachment ACP Biji George said the Shadow Police is conducting frequent drives to tackle the drug menace.
