KOCHI: In yet another case of house break, an unidentified gang of 10 broke into a house at SMP Colony Road near Hill Palace and stole gold ornaments and cash after tying up the family members in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to the Hill Palace Police officers, a ten-member gang with lethal weapons broke into the house of Ananda Kumar, of Nannappilly, SMP Colony Road, located near Hill Palace and stole fifty sovereign gold, Rs 20,000 cash, mobile phones and credit cards.

During the incident, Ananda Kumar, his wife Shari, two sons Roopak and Deepak and mother Swarnamma were in the house.

“The thieves entered the house after breaking the window panes of the kitchen on the back side. While the miscreants tied Kumar, his two sons and mother in the room, his wife was found tied inside the bathroom,” the officers said.

“Anand Kumar suffered head injuries while resisting the theft,” the officers added.

At around 4.30am, when the gang left the house, Roopak alerted the neighbours by making a loud noise. On hearing him, the neighbours reached the spot and freed the family.

City Police Commissioner M P Dinesh along with other top police officers visited the spot. The crime was also examined by the dog squad and Finger Print Bureau sleuths. Since the house is located 100m away from the railway tracks, police suspect the involvement of robbers from other states, mainly from Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, on Friday, armed miscreants attacked an elderly couple and took away their gold ornaments from their residence at Pullepady.
