Das hailing from Palakkad had to surmount several hurdles in life before reaching the pinnacle moment. He had lost his father when he was in Class VIII.

Das dedicated the laurel to his mother Ambika, who is battling cancer. According to him, his mother had been the source of strength in life and it was at her insistence he chose to pursue his interest in dance.

The talented dancer runs a dance school-- it has 53 students-- ‘Natyam’ at his native place. It was the financial help extended by the RLV teachers which enabled Das to take part in the youth festival.
