KOCHI: Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) handed over the dividend obtained by the company in the last fiscal to the state government. Minister and CIAL director Mathew T Thomas handed over the demand draft worth Rs 27.84 crore to the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the director board meeting which was held in Thiruvanthapuram the other day.

CIAL recorded a turnover of Rs 524.5 crore and a net profit of Rs 175.22 crore in the last financial year, registering a growth of 26.71 per cent in total revenue and 21.19 per cent in net profit compared to the previous fiscal. The airport company has decided to distribute a profit dividend of 25 per cent to its shareholders for the last fiscal. And with the decision to give 25 per cent dividend this year, the total dividend outgo to its shareholders is pegged at 178 per cent.

The state government has 32.4 per cent stake in the airport company and there are around 18,200 shareholders in the company from 36 countries. CIAL has also registered a footfall of 77.71 lakh passengers in the last fiscal and the airport is in the fourth position in the country in terms of international passengers handling and at seventh position in total number of passenger handling.

The Director Board meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is also the chairman of the airport company. CIAL directors K Roy Paul, A K Ramani, additional chief secretary and CIAL managing director V J Kurien, M A Yusafali, N V George, E M Babu, and Company Secretary Saji K George took part in the function.
