KOCHI: Wanna cross the road at Lise junction? Do it at your own risk because chances are high that you may get mowed down by a speeding vehicle. The traffic deviation plan is totally in a disarray here. Traffic violations have become a usual thing here, that too right under the nose of the police personnel.

Soon after the commencement of the reconstruction work of the culvert near PVS Hospital, traffic from MG Road towards Kaloor was deviated through Manappattiparambu. However, vehicles coming from Aluva are allowed to pass through the other lane, where construction activities are not taking place. But many drivers coming from Kaloor enter the other track by cutting across the gaps between the pillars of the Metro rail, says motorists.

“What they could have done is provide an opening between any two pillars and barricade the rest. But without barricades, the drivers change lanes through the gap between the pillars on a whim posing threat to other vehicles as well as pedestrians,” said Soubin George, a pedestrian.

Meanwhile, at the signal at Manappatiparambu, vehicles from M G Road take a free left to reach Kaloor. The signal here is kept switched off at almost all the time and even the traffic police do not come out of the aid post to control the vehicles. As a result, the vehicles coming from Judges Avenue Road too enter Manppatiparambu at the same time. “The vehicles coming from M G Road usually take a sharp deviation to the left covering the entire road. Moreover, none of the drivers slow down and take the left-turn smoothly here. Even the police turn a blind eye to violations here,” said Anaz Mohammed, another commuter.
