School manager in dock for submitting false information

VACB officials said they also seized the attendance registers to verify the actual mumber of students enrolled at the school.

KOCHI: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Wednesday registered a case against the manager of an aided at Pampakuda for allegedly misleading the Education Department by exaggerating the number of students studying in the school and appointing new teachers. The case was registered against Fr Abraham Konott, manager of MTM Higher Secondary School, headmistress Lovely Joseph and District Education Officer (DEO) P K Devi.

VACB officials said the school managed to increase the number of divisions for each class by submitting false documents regarding the student strength. Later, it cited the increased number of students and divisions and sought permission to recruit new teachers.

“Without conducting proper checks, the DEO allowed the school to start three additional divisions and recruit three new teachers. Following a tip-off, we conducted an initial probe and registered a case against the accused,” said an official with the VACB-Kochi unit.

VACB has decided to question the three newly-appointed teachers to find out whether the school management took any donation from them. VACB officials said they also seized the attendance registers to verify the actual mumber of students enrolled at the school.
