KOCHI: The first performance of the professional drama troupe formed by the Malayalam movie artists will be held in the city on February 5. Titled ‘Celebrity Kerala’, the troupe will present renowned play writer, late K T Mohammed’s ‘Swantham Lekhakan’ as its debut offering at the Ernakulam Fine Arts Hall.
The programme is being presented in association with Kochi-based Foundation for Annam Charity Ease (FACE) as an event for raising funds for charity. Theatre artist and film actor Kalasala Babu is the director of the play.
Apart from Kalasala Babu, K T S Patannayil, Kochu Preman, Zeenath, Babu Namboothiri, Tony, Bindu Ramakrishnan, Kulappully Leela and Neena Kurup will also handle prominent roles in the play in which telephone is another major character.
“The troupe-Celebrity Kerala-is a joint effort by those who entered Malayalam filmdom from professional drama troupes. We are planning to organise more shows in various parts of the state, outside Kerala and overseas. The number of participants are likely to be increased in the coming years,” said Kalasala Babu.
K V Shaji and Ranjith Ponnan are the producers of the play. “The tickets will be available through the office of FACE in Kochi. The ticket rates start from Rs 3,000 onwards,” said Shaji.
