KOCHI: The Maker Outpost setup by Kerala Startup Mission as part of the FabLab Asia Network conference (FAN3) at Mill Hall in Mattanchery near Kochi-Muziris Biennale venue, is a must visit for all technology enthusiasts. The Outpost gives a glimpse of the change Fablabs are bringing to our world. It shows how Fab Labs are making fabrication technology available to all, even to kids in primary school, as is the case with child prodigy Saarang Sumesh, who has displayed his robotic products at the Maker Outpost.

The Maker Outpost is being held for two days and will conclude on Wednesday.
Best projects from Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centres (IEDC) in colleges in the state have been showcased at the Outpost. The Kerala Fab Academy has also trained the artists from Srishti School of Art and Design Technology at the Fablab. Their projects are also being showcased at the Mill hall. Some of the notable projects that have been displayed at the Outpost are given below.

Circuitics: The makers from the FabLab at CEPT University Ahmedabad have showcased “Circuitrics”, a do-it-yourself kit that enables kids to draw circuit boards with pencil on paper. Pencils write using graphite which is a good conductor of electricity, enabling it to form electrical circuits. This property has been used to make the kits, that can be used even by children.

Gesture based Interactive Wall: Want to draw a picture. Just make gestures with your hand. That is what the Interactive wall developed by Abriram and Madhav, makers from the Fablab at Thiruvanathapuram help you do. The technology can be used to develop a host of applications that work using gesture based controls.
