Stage set for DYFI All-India Conference in Kochi

It is for the first time the commercial capital of Kerala is hosting the event.

KOCHI: The 10th all-India conference of the DYFI will be flagged off in Kochi on Wednesday. It is for the first time the commercial capital of Kerala is hosting the event.

The delegates’ meet will begin on Thursday morning at Jawaharlal Nehru international Stadium.

Apart from foreign delegates, around 750 delegates from across the country will attend the sessions.
“The sessions will address contemporary national issues. A new battle against intolerance and unemployment will be launched at the conference,” DYFI state secretary M Swaraj MLA said on Monday.

Rallies from Koothuparambu, Aruvippuram and Kanyakumari will converge at Marine Drive on Wednesday evening.

The delegates’ session at Kaloor Stadium will be inaugurated by former Supreme Court judge Justice Gopal Gowda at 9.30 am on Thursday.

A session on ‘Union Budget and Youth’ will be held at 5 pm in which Finance Minister Thomas Isaac will deliver the keynote address.

Former vice chairman of Planning Board Prabhat Patnaik will also speak.
On Friday, a special session on secularism will be inaugurated by CPM politburo member Prakash Karat. Critic M K Sanu, director Kamal and Swami Sandeepananda Giri will address the delegates.

The topic “Caste and Creed system in India” will be discussed at 9.30 pm on Saturday. Activist Bezwada Wilson, JNU professor Gopal Guru, Rohit Vemula’s mother Radhika Vemula and his brother Raja Vemula will attend the session.

Around two lakh DYFI workers are expected to participate in the youth rally to be held at Marine Drive on Sunday to mark the valedictory meeting. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will inaugurate the meeting at 5 pm. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will address the gathering.

A photo exhibition and  book exhibition will also be held as part of the conference. This is for the third time Kerala is hosting the DYFI conference . The meet was held in Thiruvananthapuram in 1986 and Kozhikode in 2000.
