KOCHI: Women empowerment is the major motto of KMRL and it has appointed nearly 700 in various posts including that of loco pilots. The maiden journey of Kochi Metro for the public, which commenced on Monday morning, saw a substantial number of women passengers too.

This points towards the fact that they count Metro as a system which can provide them safety and security. While interacting with them, Team Express found out why they feel safe in Metro compared to other modes of transport.

According to Teena and Sanjana, two college students, the CCTVs, both inside the train and also the stations, give a sense of safety. “In crowded buses and trains, we have to face harassment in one or more forms from the opposite gender,” said Teena.

Not only students but also working women and home makers thronged Palarivattom station to experience the comfort of a ride on Kochi Metro. “We have been waiting for this day for quite sometime. I couldn’t wait any longer, so I reached here at 5:30 am to be a part this historic moment,” said Shyja, a homemaker while enjoying the ride with her 3-year-old daughter and husband.
