Youth held over bid to slit woman’s throat

A love-obsessed stalker on Monday was arrested after he allegedly tried to slit the throat of a woman, who had rejected his marriage proposal, near Kaloor here.

KOCHI: A love-obsessed stalker on Monday was arrested after he allegedly tried to slit the throat of a woman, who had rejected his marriage proposal, near Kaloor here. The grievously injured victim was rushed to a private hospital at Palarivattom, where she underwent emergency surgery. Her condition is said to be stable, according to the police. “The victim sustained gashes on her neck, left shoulder and left thigh. Hearing her screams, people rushed to the spot even as the accused fled the scene,” the officers said.


Shyam,28,the alleged perpetrator,was nabbed by the police from the KSRTC bus stand in Muvattupuzha. 
The incident took place around 6.30 am on the Deshabhimani Jn-Karukappilly Road stretch when the victim hailing from Kothamangalam was en route to the  private laboratory where she works. As she reached her workplace in an autorickshaw, the accused approached her on a two-wheeler and attempted to slit her throat using a blade. Shyam also hailing from Kothamangalam has since been remanded in custody after being produced before the Magistrate Court by the Ernakulam Central police.  


“The preliminary inquiry indicates the accused was trying to wreak revenge on the woman for rejecting his proposal for marriage. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him,” said the officers attached to the Ernakulam Central police station.


According to the police,after slashing the woman Shyam had reached the KSRTC main stand in Ernakulam on his two wheeler from where he took a bus to Muvattupuzha. A police team from Kothamangalam rushed to the spot and apprehended him after being tippedoff by their  counterparts in Kochi.
