KOCHI: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Development has come out with a blueprint for the comprehensive development of Ernakulam district. The plan for the district was finalised at a meeting of industry chambers, prominent personalities and other key agencies of the district here on Tuesday. G Madhavan Nair, former chairman of ISRO, who is also the president of the Kalam Centre, called for a transparent governance, without mixing development with politics, for a permanent solution to the problems being faced by the country.

He was inaugurating ‘Vision Kerala 2017’, a development seminar organised by the A P J Abdul Kalam Centre for Development here. Responding to the issues raised by experts from various fields, Nair said long-term follow up plans should also be given importance along with identifying solutions.
The Paravoor-Chendamangalam Handloom Industry, Cherai Tourist Centre Development, road blocks in Aluva, the inoperative Brahmapuram Waste Management Plant, accidents on Varappuzha bridge and the need for an industry-oriented education system were some of the key matters discussed.
The seminar concluded with the decision to set up a task force in each of these areas for the integral development of the district. “The elected representatives should look into the public’s concerns on developmental issues, and this should not be compromised with other objectives,” Nair told ‘Express’ on the sidelines of the seminar.
