KOCHI: The City Police on Thursday arrested the youth, who allegedly stabbed to death a 45-year-old hotel owner at Vyttila on Wednesday.

According to the officers, P S Ratheesh, 27, Paruthikattil, Puliyanmala, Idukki, who had been on the run in the incident’s aftermath, surrendered before the Kattappana Circle Inspector by 11am on Thursday. He was later handed over to Ernakulam South CI Siby Tom.

The officers said Ratheesh came alone to the Circle Inspector’s office and he was unarmed.

Based on the findings of the preliminary probe, it became clear there was no previous enmity between Ratheesh and the slain Johnson and he had committed the murder in a fit of rage as he was inebriated at the time of the incident.

It was a seemingly innocuous incident-- a verbal spat over the quality of the vada served to the accused at the hotel run by Johnson--which resulted in the ghastly killing.
