A three-day-long literary meet and book exhibition will begin on Saturday.

KOCHI:  Bibliophiles can treat themselves to a variety of books as the city is soon to stage a three-day-long literary meet and book exhibition starting from May 27. The function will be held as part of the Indian Publishing Houses’ annual meet which is being held for the first time in Kerala. 

Observing the 100th anniversary of the October Socialist Revolution, the 150th anniversary since Karl Marx’s ‘Das Capital’ was published and as a precursor to the economist’s 200th Birth Anniversary, the event which will be conducted by Prabhath Book House will be an elaborate one.

A number of publishing houses from India will be taking part in the meet and book exhibition-cum-sale held till May 29 at Palayam Raktasakshi Mandapam here.

Participating publishing houses
New Century Book House(Tamil Nadu), Navakarnataka Publications(Karnataka), Navachetana Publishing House(Telangana), Visalandhra Publishing House(Andhra Pradesh), People’s Publishing House(New Delhi). Rajasthan People’s Publishing House(Rajasthan), Lok Vangmaya Griha(Maharashtra) and Punjab Book Centre(Punjab) are the publishing houses taking part in the exhibition.

The event is set to start with the book exhibition from 10 am till 4 pm, after which lovers of literature can take delight in story and poetry recital events. S V Venugopan Nair will inaugurate the poetry recital session, which will be presided over by author George Onakoor. Renowned story writers will recite some of their works on the occasion.

The inaugural ceremony on Saturday will be succeeded by the release of two books namely “Karl Marxinde Jeevacharitram’ and Lokathe Pidichukulukkiya 10 Dinangal’ by CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran. The lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi will inaugurate the poetry recital on Monday 4 pm after which the valedictory event would be held.  

 His book ‘Cherukathakal’ will also be released on the occasion, and G N Panikker will receive the first copy of the book. Books can also be availed at discounts of 10-50 percent.
