KOCHI: The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), Nedumbassery, on Friday came out with a statement pilfering of baggage of elderly couple who travelled from the US to Kerala did not happen at the Kochi airport.Chacko Kurian and his wife Elly Kutty had lodged a complaint with the Terminal Manager stating goods in their baggage went missing while they arrived in Kochi from Florida via Doha on Wednesday early morning.

“The entire trajectory from the flight arrival area to the conveyor belt is under CCTV monitoring as we have 3,600 cameras installed there. An inspection of the CCTV footage were held in the presence of the complainant and the local police. It was found neither the flight staff nor the airport employees indulged in any kind of misconduct," said a statement issued by CIAL. CIAL spokesperson said the suspected pilfering might have taken place at other airports where the couple alighted during the journey. "The couple had got off at Orlando, Florida, New York and Doha airports. The couple arrived here at 2.20 am and all four baggages were taken off the conveyor belt within 40 minutes," he said.

The authorities have advised the couple to lodge a complaint with the airport authorities in Doha, New York, Florida and Orlando so that further probe into the incident can be carried out and culprits traced out.
