Missionary nun Sr Rani Maria beatification celebration in Kochi

The celebration of the beatification of Malayali missionary nun Sr Rani Maria will be held in Kochi on Saturday.

KOCHI: The celebration of the beatification of Malayali missionary nun Sr Rani Maria will be held in Kochi on Saturday. Sr Rani, who was stabbed to death in Madhya Pradesh was elevated to the status of ‘Blessed’ at a ceremony in Indore on November 4.

There will be a thanksgiving mass followed by a public meeting at St Mary’s Basilica. The celebration is jointly organised by the Catholic church in Kerala and Sr Rani’s Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC).  
The function will begin at 2.45 pm with a procession carrying relics of the beatified nun from the Archbishop’s House to the basilica.

Syro Malabar Church head Mar George Cardinal Alencherry will lead the mass. Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) president Archbishop M Susa Pakiam will deliver the homily.
Nagpur Archbishop Abraham Viruthukulangara, Indore Bishop Chacko Thottumarickal, Auxiliary Bishops of Ernakulam-Angamaly Mar Jose Puthenveetil and Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath and bishops from and outside the state, will be co-celebrants at the mass.

Catholic Bishops Conference of India president Cardinal Baselios Mar Cleemis will inaugurate the public meeting. FCC Mother General Sr Anne Joseph, Sr Rani’s sister Sr Selmy Paul and Seva Singh, a representative from Uday Nagar where Sr Rani carried out missionary work, will speak.

Martyred for mankind
Sr Rani, who was stabbed to death in Madhya Pradesh was elevated to the status of ‘Blessed Martyr’ at a ceremony in Indore on November 4.
