Two arrested in 11-year-old murder case

KOCHI: The CBI on Wednesday got a major breakthrough in a murder case registered 11 years ago at Eriyad near Kodungallur, Thrissur, after it arrested two persons suspected to be directly involved in the case.A team led by DSP C N Salim Sahib, CBI, Thiruvananthapuram, Special Crime Branch (SCB) Unit, arrested Muhammad of Manappad and Abdul Karim of Punnilath after they were summoned to the CBI office here for interrogation.

CBI officers said the duo was arrested in the case registered on December 14, 2006, in connection with the murder of Abdu, native of Ariyad. Abdu was attacked by unidentified persons while he was riding his bicycle. He suffered major head injury in the attack and succumbed to injuries though he was rushed to the hospital.  The probe by Kerala Police and Crime Branch failed to track down Abdu’s assailants.

Following a petition by the parents of the deceased in the Kerala High Court, the case was later handed over to CBI which took over the case in October last year.CBI suspects the involvement of more persons in the case.
