CISF seizes 3.6kg of cocaine at Cochin International Airport

KOCHI: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Cochin International Airport has seized nearly 3.6kg cocaine from a foreign national during security checks at the airport. 
The accused has been identified as Alexis Regalado Fernandez, a national of the Republic of Paraguay.
According to CIAL officials, Alexis Regalado Fernandez-, who came here at the domestic terminal to board a flight to Bangalore, approached the passenger embarkation security check (PESC) area in the terminal and came to frisking booth No.1 for his security checks by 7.35 pm on Sunday. During customary checking, CISF officer Srinivasa Rao G who was carrying out the security checks at the Frisking Booth detected some padding on his body which seemed suspicious.
He was then taken for pat-down checks to the room designated for the purpose at the terminal.  While carrying out the pat-down search, it was noticed that he concealed some white coloured powder packed in plastic pouches designed like cricket pads and strapped on his waist and shin below the knees. The padding was X-Ray screened and it showed some organic material.
On inspecting the material with Explosives (and drug) Trace Detector, ETD, the test showed positive for Cocaine. The material was further checked with the narcotics detection kit available with the Airport Security Guard and the test confirmed that the material was cocaine. The quantity of material weighed about 3.693 kg. On checking his documents, it was found that he was holding a passport, with number L333622 issued by the Republic of Paraguay. He was bound to travel by Indigo airline flight No 6E 412 from Kochi to Bangalore.
The inspection of his passport has revealed that he reached India on Sunday from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai. The seizure of cocaine was immediately alerted to Narcotics Control Bureau for further action. The NCB officials who reached the airport subsequently were handed over the material seized with a seizure memo and a report made out in this regard by CISF.  The passenger along with all connected documents including Passport, Boarding card Serer was also handed over to NCB, said Shahi Kanth Sr Commandant and Chief Airport Security Officer, Cochin Airport.
