Cochin Port demands Rs 1.13-crore compensation

KOCHI: The Cochin Port Trust has sent a letter to the Department of Fisheries demanding a compensation of Rs 1.13 crore in 15 days for the loss incurred because of the navigational blockade of the channel.
In the letter, it is stated the Marine Enforcement Wing was fully responsible for the incident and the consequential losses to CPT.

Entry of the damaged fishing boat to the navigational channel, without prior permission from the port control, was illegal. The commercial reputation of CPT has also been adversely affected  at the international level.''The entry and sinking of the vessel in the channel has prompted the international forum on trade to raise question marks on the safety and security of the Cochin Port, especially with the compliance of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code),'' the letter said.
