Gold worth Rs 27 L seized at Cial

The office of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Cochin International Airport, seized around 1kg of gold from a passenger who arrived here by Air Asia flight, on Wednesday.

KOCHI: The office of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Cochin International Airport, seized around 1kg of gold from a passenger who arrived here by Air Asia flight, on Wednesday. The officials intercepted the passenger, who hails from Punjab, at the arrival hall of the airport when he attempted to smuggle out the gold valued approximately at Rs 27.35 lakh.

The gold was kept in the form of small ring shaped objects concealed in baby diapers the passenger was carrying.The seizure was made on an information from Principal Commissioner of Customs Pullela Nageswara Rao and Additional Commissioner S Anilkumar, a customs officer said. Assistant Commissioners Roy Varghese and E V Sivaraman led the team which comprised superintendents N G Jaison, K P Ajithkumar, K P Majeed, K N Prashanth, Gibi John, and inspectors Sumit Malik, Niranjan Kumar Nirala, and Mohit Sharma.
