KOCHI: In a gruesome incident, a 58-year-old in North Paravur allegedly murdered his 22-year-old son by slashing his neck before hanging himself from the ceiling of his house because of ‘behavioural aberrations’ of his son, the police said on Wednesday. According to the officers, though a suicide note was found at the crime scene the probe is still on.

“A note was found in which he cites the anger towards his son’s behaviour as the reason for the extreme step. However, a probe led by the Circle Inspector is on,” the police said.
Pavanan Raveendran retired from a clerical job at a court after a short stint with the armed forces and his wife is a teacher. He was upset with the behaviour of his son Manoj, who became addicted to drugs and liquor.

“He was booked in a case at Palakkad and the father had to go there to secure his bail. Due to continuous drug intake, Manoj had shown signs of behavioural problems. He cites the plight of an ex-serviceman father in his suicide note. The note also reveals he was very much attached to his family,” said an officer.
Officers said the youth used to take money from his family every day and was reportedly involved in ganja abuse among other drugs.

Pavanan's wife and elder son were away in connection with a festival in their family temple when the incident happened at Vadakkekara.The family residing at Kakkanaattuveedu, North Paravur, had moved there from their native place of Cherai recently. The incident came to light when a relative from Cherai came visiting and saw the body on Wednesday morning and intimated the police by 11.30 am.
The police collected evidence from the spot and completed the inquest procedures. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, said the officers.
