Women fully capable of bringing about social changes: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan

Women are strong, competent and fully capable of bringing about political, social, financial and spiritual changes in the country, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said.

KOCHI: The Indian women have proved they can shoulder great responsibilities and efficiently discharge their duties, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has said. Important portfolios like Defence and External Affairs in the Union Ministry are handled by women, said Mahajan while inaugurating the Mathru Sakthi Sangamam organised by the Mathru Samithi of Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi (KKSS) at the Bhaskareeyam’ Convention Centre at Elamakkara here on Sunday.

Women are strong and capable of bringing about changes in the country’s social, political and spiritual spheres. They should raise their voice against social evils and act as a corrective force. Women have the ability to face problems boldly and solve them with maturity, said Mahajan.

Describing women members of Parliament and State Assemblies as empowered people who can bring about changes, she said women leaders should set an example and pave the way for the empowerment of the section. Mahajan said the humanity’s wellbeing was possible only through harnessing women power. Women are getting plenty of opportunities in the present social atmosphere to prove their talent and society is recognising them as agents of change. With perseverance and determination, women can reach the pinnacle of success, said Mahajan.

She praised KKSS for its role in reviving faith and inculcating temple culture among believers. People should go to temples wearing good clothes and with pleasant thoughts. We should be able to preserve our cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations, she said.

Matru Samithi state president Santha S Pillai presided over the function. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan, Matru Samithi patron V T Rama, Hindu Aikya Vedi president K P Sasikala, Swamy Aswathy Thirunal of Ekalavyasram, Seema Jagaran Akhila Bharatheeya Samyojak  A Gopalakrishnan, N C Induchoodan,  Susheela Jayan, Lakshmi Sreenivas,  P M Gopi, Sreeganga, Santha S Panicker, Vijayaraghavan among others attended the event.
