Credai, cochin shipyard  plan to build 'klean toilet'

KOCHI: Property developers association Credai and the public-sector undertaking Cochin Shipyard have plans to help build toilets in big, unused containers under the 'Klean Toilet' initiative of the Better Kochi Response Group (BKRG). The initiative, which was launched here on Tuesday, will have toilets built in containers with minimum expense and good finishing. It can also accommodate a small shop, thereby helping in financing the maintenance of the toilet. At certain places, toilets for the differently-abled will also be built.

Local Self-Government Minister K T Jaleel inaugurated the initiative at Azeezia farm outlet, Palarivattom. He said the initiative will benefit tourists coming to Kochi.“Kochi is a prime tourist spot and the heart of Kerala. Any development that happens here reflects on the whole state,” he said.Sponsored by Abdul Azeez (Azeezia farm outlet), the prototype has three cubicles for women and two urinals for men. There is a janitor store and a money collection area. It also has a vertical garden outside. The 'Klean Toilet' can be placed anywhere and is less costly than normal toilets.

BKRG president S Gopakumar said the group received welcome cooperation from leading brands for the project.“We hope other brands also come forward and help us using CSR funds to fulfil the mission,” he said. He also sought 'favourable decisions' from the minister with regard to 'Klean Toilets', like asking the local self-government bodies to allow them land to place the toilets and provide them with free supply of water and electricity.
