‘Repair roads’

The people’s representatives of Ernakulam asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to repair the roads which are in dilapidated condition at various areas in the district.

KOCHI: The people’s representatives of Ernakulam asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to repair the roads which are in dilapidated condition at various areas in the district. At the district development council meeting held at the district administration headquarters the other day, they asked the PWD to avoid blaming the monsoon.

“The PWD should stop uttering the same words again and again. The major issue with many roads is that the KWA never repairs the damage it has done. Inviting tenders and allotting fresh works are time consuming processes. Repairing roads in a time bound manner is the only solution,” the MLAs added.
K J Maxi MLA said since the city is all set to host the FIFA U-17 matches, the authorities concerned should take steps to re-tar the roads on a war footing. Meanwhile, HIbi Eden MLA said the roads in Ernakulam which were dug up by the Reliance Group to lay cables continue to remain in a shoddy state.
In the reply, the PWD officials said the work on the Civil Lane road will begin soon. “The tenders will be floated soon and the work is expected to be launched in two weeks. Also the work of the Vyttila-Petta road and Infopark-Smart City road will also begin soon,” they said.

Criticising the PWD, P T Thomas MLA said the stretch between Palarivattom and Collectorate is pockmarked with potholes. Meanwhile, the KWA authorities have requested the Collector to issue an order banning heavy vehicles through Palarivattom -Pipeline Road. “Due to the entry of heavy vehicles and containers, pipe burst has become a common affair in the area,” they added.
