Official apathy hits resurvey work in Eranakulam

The resurvey work being undertaken by the Department of Survey and Land Records, Ernakulam District has allegedly hit a rough spot.

KOCHI: The resurvey work being undertaken by the Department of Survey and Land Records, Ernakulam District has allegedly hit a rough spot. According to the office bearers of the Survey Field Staff Organisation, the resurvey has come to a halt due to the lackadaisical attitude of certain officers, especially the ones at the top.  The organisation alleged the officers at the top rungs of the department are putting pressure on the field staff to put in a performance beyond their limits. "We are being tortured mentally. It has become humanly impossible to meet the demands made by the senior officers," said a field staff, under the condition of anonymity.

According to him, the entire problem started with the introduction of the new survey classification. "The land to be surveyed is classified into three categories - ordinary, above ordinary and extraordinary. Each category stipulates the number of properties to be covered. But under the new classification, the number of properties to be covered has been increased. However, days fixed for the completion of the survey doesn't configure with the number of properties to be surveyed. We are given just three days to complete the survey of properties that come under the extraordinary category," he said.

The organisation even accused the Survey Deputy Director Ernakulam district of colluding with vested interests who want to scuttle the resurvey process. However, the Deputy Director denied allegations and said, the resurvey work has not been stopped. "Only a few staff are resorting to such tactics. Others are reporting to work," he said.
