A ‘homely’ Vishu gift for Sreekutty

The 11th house under ‘Ammakilikoodu’, a housing project for homeless widows was presented to Sajini and her daughter Sreekutty, of Thuruthissery, Nedumbassery.

KOCHI: The 11th house under ‘Ammakilikoodu’, a housing project for homeless widows initiated by Anwar Sadath MLA in the Aluva Assembly constituency, was presented to Sajini and her daughter Sreekutty, of Thuruthissery, Nedumbassery.

For Sreekutty, who bagged A-plus in all subjects in SSLC examinations last year, it was literally a ‘Vishukaineetam’. Anwar Sadath had come to know about the plight of the homeless mother and her daughter during a meeting held to felicitate the students who bagged A-plus in all subjects in the Aluva SNDP School. Following this, the MLA promised them a house.

The key of the house was handed over to them by actor Harishree Asokan on Saturday. Sudheesh Puzhakadavil, MD of Adlux Convention Centre, Karukutti, was the sponsor of the house.
As part of the Ammakilikoodu project, a 510-sqft two-bedroom house will be constructed for homeless widows, who own land but could not construct a house owing to financial constraints.

So far, the keys of 10 houses have been handed over under the project which was launched on April 4, 2017. The construction of 17 houses is under way. The project is being carried out with the support of NGOs, individuals and institutions.
