KOCHI: Alleging nepotism and factional feud by a four-member coterie led by CPI district secretary P Raju, a group of leaders and hundreds of workers in Pachalam, Vaduthala and Ayyappankavu have decided to quit the party and join the CPM.

The leaders who stepped down include former Kochi Corporation councillor E M Sunil Kumar, former local secretary T C Joshi, Mandalam committee member E M Prasannakumar, Mahila Sangham local committee president Laila Madhusoodanan, Vaduthala local committee members Merson Moris, G Murugan and N Hari, Don Bosco branch secretary Gladwin P A and local committee member K G Chathurmughan.

"We decided to join the CPM as we want to work as communists. As a mark of protest, hundreds of party workers in Pachalam, Vaduthala and Ayyappankavu will not renew their membership," Sunil Kumar said at a press conference on Monday. Kumar said the decision of six leaders, including himself, to contest in the district committee polls was an act of protest against the autocratic policy of the group led by Raju.
"Even after the conference, they are not ready to rectify their mistakes. Instead, they are trying to eliminate those who raised their voice in protest. Henchmen were given key posts while those worked for the party sincerely were ignored," Sunil Kumar said.
