Kerala High Court orders CBI probe in Mariakutty murder case

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe in a case related to the murder of a 75-year-old woman at Cherupuzha in Kannur in 2012.The court issued the order on the petition filed by Joshi, Sebastian and Thomas, seeking a CBI probe into the murder of Mariakutty.

According to the petitioners, though the Crime Branch had taken up the investigation in the case, it could not make any progress and the accused is still at large.Mariakutty, who was staying alone in her house at Kakkayamchal near Cherupuzha, was found murdered on March 5, 2012.

The petitioners submitted, only someone who knew the locality very well would have been able to commit such a crime.Though the CCTV footage, which allegedly contains visuals of the accused persons, was seized by the police, it is missing now, the petitioners said.
