Artist Jimmy Mathew is blending art and architecture

KOCHI:Art speaks where words fail. Many a time, an artist's work reflects their own personal life. Artist Jimmy Mathew whose colourful paintings are deeply personal and documents his own journey is currently exhibited at Studio Pepper fry in Panampilly Nagar.

Jimmy's works are mainly in acrylic, oil and charcoal mediums. His main aim is to collaborate contemporary art with architectural designing. He is a self-taught artist who draws inspiration from his own encounter with art. The artist associates the spiritual principals in his paintings which conveys a divine message to the audience. The exhibits displayed here were dynamic and enthusiastic. Currently, there are around 20 paintings here which include original paintings and printouts.

Jimmy's paintings follow a unique style. He focused on the depth of colours which evoked changing moods in people. He says "The intensity of colours switches the viewers from melancholic mood to happiness". He links to nature, life and human soul together which could be clearly visible in one of his present works. The work which displays the image of a woman who looks at her future and embodies various aspects of humans struggle in life.

He assisted and worked with famous artists in the first Indian biennale (Kochi-Muziris). The biennale influenced him a lot and the direct interaction with eminent artists was a turning point in his artistic life. His works were not theme based and are mostly abstract, landscape and floral. Various architects approach him with their new projects to collaborate his paintings into it. He always goes with the customer taste which makes him excel in his artistic profession. Presently he is a full-time artist and focuses more on interior designing.

Jimmy says "Art has various genres, paintings differ widely within themselves". He gives importance to aesthetics and thus he brings that sense in all his interior designing projects. He does the task by visiting the site and link it with his own thoughts and ideas. His first exhibition was held initially at Durbar Hall in the year 2014, where numerous paintings were displayed. Later an exhibition was held at Kadavanthra in 2017. He has also showcased his paintings at Indian Institute of Architecture a few years back. A wide collection of paintings were owned by Jimmy from various countries across the world.

Jimmy uses various techniques in his paintings which adds to his success. He never targets on profit instead tries to contribute to the public via art. In the last fifteen years, he sold a lot of paintings to art collectors, philanthropists, hotels, house owners and professionals who find a connection with his work, passion and drive. His mission is to demystify the world of contemporary art and interior design and bring them together.
