Kalamassery municipality: 3 Congress(I) faction chairpersons submit resignation

Factional feud in the Congress party at Kalamassery municipality intensified with three standing committee chairpersons of the 'I' faction resigning from the post on Wednesday.

KOCHI:Factional feud in the Congress party at Kalamassery municipality intensified with three standing committee chairpersons of the 'I' faction resigning from the post on Wednesday.Development Standing Committee chairperson Rukhiya Jamal, who is the wife of former municipality chairperson, Welfare Standing Committee chairperson Shajahan Kadakappally and Health standing committee chairperson Sulfath Ismail submitted the resignation from the standing committee chairpersons' post.

"As per the earlier agreement, the municipality chairman seat and standing committee seats have to be shared with the 'I' faction after the tenure of two and a half years," said a party source in the 'I' faction at Kalamassery municipality.

"Even after this the chairman and the 'A' faction were not ready to hand over the seats. This forced the 'I' faction to submit the resignation, said a member in the 'I' faction at Kalamassery municipality.However, the A faction is of the opinion former KPCC president V M Sudheeran directed not to share the seats after two and a half years.

"Even in the meeting held under the Congress leadership, no seat-sharing was discussed.There were no such agreements with the 'I' faction," said Jessy Peter when asked about the dramatic scenes at the Municipality.

Meanwhile, the Congress leadership in the district said they were unaware of such developments.
"We haven't received any communication in regard. We are really unaware of such incident," said T J Vinodh,District Congress president.
