KOCHI: She is in her 40s and he in his 20s. A long-distance affair finally comes to its desired conclusion, a passionate rendevous. But, their intimate moments are interrupted when an uninvited guest comes calling. Vinay Krishnan’s debut short film ‘Men at my door’ follows a couple and a stranger who lands at their door.

The 17-minute short film, released a few days ago and already garnering over 52,000 views,  is a dark and broody tale told with enough thriller elements. With an intriguing background score and engaging narrative, ‘Men at my door’ is a worthy debut, boasting the presence of Sudev Nair and Aswathi Menon in lead roles.

“Men at my door is a psycho-thriller. But I think the most important facet of my debut work is its non-linear narrative, which can be confusing. In fact, I was so blown away by the movies which follow a non-linear pattern that I decided to try the same technique in my debut work too,” says Vinay Krishnan.
Rightfully, ‘Men at my door’ is a technically brilliant work, with a narrative that can put you on the edge of the seat.

For Vinay, the subject was a challenge to himself. “I have been directing advertisements for so long and wanted to test myself whether I could do a movie or not. So, when I stumbled on the thread, I wanted it to be something that pushes my limits. I think the final product has only made me more confident,” says Vinay.

While Vinay handles the story, the script was penned by  Prinish Prabhakaran. Once they finalised the script, the duo wanted Sudev to do the protagonist.“I couldn’t just place anybody other than Sudev for the role. Once the script was ready, it felt like the character Jerry was tailor-made for Sudev. I contacted him and he asked me to send the script across. He was satisfied and decided to do it. Same with Aswathi, she loved the script and joined us,” says Vinay.

While Aswathi, who has made her comeback to Malayalam, will next be seen in Fahad Faasil-starrer Trance, Sudev is already a familiar face in M-Town, with a state award to his kitty. The short film also has Disney James in a significant role.It has been made by Whiteway Productions in association with TVC Factory.
