Ernakulam: Duo flee with car after overpowering driver

In an apparent case of carjacking, two unidentified miscreants on Thursday evening made away with a taxi car after knocking out its 63-year-old driver near Ayyampuzha.

KOCHI: In an apparent case of carjacking, two unidentified miscreants on Thursday evening made away with a taxi car after knocking out its 63-year-old driver near Ayyampuzha.  The duo hailed Sivasankaran Nair’s cab around 5 pm for a trip to Malayattoor, some  50 km away from Aluva. When the vehicle reached Pandupara near Ayyampuzha, the ‘passengers’ asked the driver to halt the vehicle for relieving themselves.

When they returned, the miscreants were reportedly drunk and they attacked Nair who collapsed to the ground. The men later fled the scene in the stolen car. The police are trying to establish the identity of the duo with the help of  CCTV footage. “ The two were drunk. We are scouring the CCTV footage to establish their identity and bring them to justice,” an officer said.The Aluva police have registered a case and a probe has been initiated in this regard,” said Vishal Johnson attached to the Aluva East police station.
